Tuition Refund Policy
1. Policy Overview
Malayalam University is committed to transparency in its financial dealings. As a religious institution, we view the financial support of our students as a sacred contribution toward the preservation of our 2,000-year heritage. This policy outlines the conditions under which tuition and fees may be refunded.
2. Cancellation Period (The "Three-Day Rule")
In accordance with standard Florida consumer practices, a student may cancel their enrollment agreement without any penalty within three (3) business days of signing the agreement or making an initial payment.
Refund Amount: 100% of all monies paid.
Process: Must be submitted in writing to the Registrar’s Office via email.
3. Prorated Refund Schedule
If a student withdraws after the initial three-day period but before the end of a term, the following refund schedule applies to tuition:
Note: Registration fees, technology fees, and international processing fees are generally non-refundable after the three-day cancellation period.
4. Special Circumstances for International Students
We recognize that our students from Kerala and the wider diaspora may face unique challenges. Malayalam University will consider a full (100%) tuition refund (minus a small administrative fee) regardless of the date if:
Visa Denial: A student’s Religious Visa (R-1) or student-related entry permit is denied by the U.S. Consulate. (Proof of denial required).
Course Cancellation: The University is forced to cancel a specific course or program.
Family Emergency: Documented severe illness or death in the immediate family that precludes the student from starting the semester.
5. Withdrawal Process
To initiate a refund, the student must:
Complete the Official Withdrawal Form (available on the Student Portal).
Submit any supporting documentation (e.g., medical notes or visa denial letters).
The date of the refund calculation will be the date the written notice is received by the University.
6. Timeline for Refunds
Refunds will be processed within 30 days of the approved withdrawal date.
For international students in India, refunds will be issued in USD via the original payment method or wire transfer. The student is responsible for any currency conversion fees or bank wire charges.
7. Non-Transferability
As a religious institution, tuition paid to Malayalam University is for the specific purpose of religious and heritage education. Credits and tuition cannot be "transferred" to secular universities, and refunds will not be granted based on the non-transferability of credits to other institutions.
Important Legal Note:
To stay compliant with Florida Statute 1005.04, this refund policy must be published in your Student Handbook and your Academic Catalog. It must be presented to the student before they pay any tuition.
